The New England Patriots traded for Josh Gordon. Of course they did.
The Patriots sent the Cleveland Browns a 2019 fifth-round pick in return for Gordon’s services. Additionally, if the Josh Gordon experiment flames out, the Browns will send them a 2019 seventh-round pick. Again, of course New England would do this.
Many people fail to remember the Patriots taking on — and usually becoming successful– with reclamation projects.
Remember Corey Dillon? He helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XXIX. Remember Randy Moss? Not only did he help get the Pats to Super Bowl XLII, he was a BIG reason the Pats finished with an undefeated regular season.
And sure, there were busts (Albert Haynesworth and Chad Johnson, come on down!). But I tend to think New England knows what the hell it’s doing when comes to acquiring troubled/disgruntled stars.
I mean, you know Pats fans are salivating at the possibility of having another Tom Brady-Randy Moss kind of production. Gordon’s upside is STILL tremendous. Anyone who disputes that should check the tape of what he did against my Steelers in Week 1.
Taking a shot for a championship while standing to lose little in the worst case scenario: that is why the Patriots have gone to Super Bowls eight times in 17 years (!). That’s why they are the best organization in all of sports.
Dammit…
