But I can't help but notice the buzz generated by the presence of Lonzo Ball throughout the 2017 NBA Summer League.
This dude has been setting attendance records, and recording some triple-doubles along the way. He's been a human highlight film (apologies to Dominique Wilkins) most of the summer.
Oh, and y'all gotta love his "which shoe will he rock" storyline the media laps the hell out of. One night Big Baller Brand, the next night Kobes, night after that the James Hardens. Lonzo would set the internet on fire if he wore the Steph Currys.
Back to the summer league.
Again, I understand that most of the dudes playing are going to be either D-leaguers or future UPS employees (much love to UPS). That said, I typically use the summer league to see which studs play like their draft spots.
Simply put, if those guys do not dominate the competition as they should, it would be cause for alarm. After a slow start, Lonzo did just that, lighting cats up and dishing copious amounts of assists en route to being named the summer league MVP.
And while I don't think that Lonzo will be the next Magic Johnson, he will be a star in the NBA. Think Jason Kidd with a jump shot.
As long as his dad shuts the hell up and stays out of the way, Lonzo will be fine.
