I am in awe of Drew Brees.
A 5’11” dude has no damn business having an 18-year career as a successful starting quarterback in the NFL. He certainly has no damn business setting all-time passing records in completions and yardage for a career, passing the likes of Dan Marino, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning along the way.
I was happy to see Brees do it because from all accounts, he is even a better guy in the locker room and off the field. There have been numerous accounts from players past and present who have played with Brees who’ve lauded at how great of a teammate and human being he is.
I’m not going to rush to hyperbole and call him the all-time great QB — Tom Brady is that in spades. However, to see an undersized dude in Brees do it is STILL awesome.
Brees is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer who will not only be rightfully considered one of the best QBs of all time, he will be remembered as one of the best MEN. His numerous NFL “Man of the Year” nominations speak to his charity work in the community.
And he will always be revered in New Orleans as the guy who not only helped bring the city back from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, but helped them win their only Super Bowl title. If I were Drew Brees, that would be good enough for me…
