The 2016 college football season is only one day away. And yeah, I know about Cal-Hawaii in Sydney, Australia last weekend, so sue me.
At any rate, I normally preview each conference separately. However, not only am I running out of time, I’m just a damn slacker.
So, without further ado, here is my rather comprehensive 2016 college football preview. Let’s go…
(In order of predicted finish)
Atlantic Coast Conference
Atlantic Division
- Clemson
- Louisville
- Florida State
- Boston College
- NC State
- Wake Forest
- Syracuse
Coastal Division
- North Carolina
- Miami
- Pittsburgh
- Virginia Tech
- Georgia Teach
- Duke
- Virginia
Analysis: as much as the ACC is all about Clemson and Florida State, this is the year Louisville crashes the party. They have the defense, and the star QB to make it happen (plus the Cards get FSU at home). Pitt should be scary, too…
Big 12
- Oklahoma
- Oklahoma State
- TCU
- Texas
- Kansas State
- Texas Tech
- Baylor
- West Virginia
- Iowa State
- Kansas
Analysis: conference “can’t get right” should be competitive this season, though I don’t see anyone out of this bunch in the 2016 College Football Playoff…
Big Ten, aka “B1G”
East Division
- Ohio State
- Michigan
- Michigan State
- Penn State
- Indiana
- Maryland
- Rutgers
West Division
- Nebraska
- Iowa
- Wisconsin
- Northwestern
- Minnesota
- Purdue
- Illinois
Analysis: sorry Wolverine fans, but your squad ain’t winning the B1G. Go beat Ohio State and Michigan State first. They lost to both AT HOME last season…
Pac-12
North Division
- Stanford
- Oregon
- Washington
- Washington State
- California
- Oregon State
South Division
- UCLA
- Utah
- USC
- Arizona
- Arizona State
- Colorado
Analysis: another conference who will be without a representative in the CFP, in this case for the second year in a row. Wouldn’t shock me if the conference champ has at least three loses…
Southeastern Conference, aka “The Beast”
East Division
- Tennessee
- Georgia
- Florida
- Kentucky
- Missouri
- Vanderbilt
- South Carolina
West Division
- Alabama
- LSU
- Ole Miss
- Arkansas
- Texas A&M
- Mississippi State
- Auburn
Analysis: this is the year two teams from the same conference make the CFP. Alabama and LSU, come on down. Meanwhile, Tennessee, you better make my prediction look good – dammit…
Best of the Rest (Group of Five)
AAC
East division champ: Cincinnati
West division champ: Houston
AAC champ: Houston
Conference USA
East division: Marshall
West division: Southern Miss
Conference USA champ: Marshall
Mid Athletic Conference, aka “#MACtion”
East division champ: Bowling Green
West division champ: Northern Illinois
MAC champ: Northern Illinois
Mountain West Conference
Mountain division champ: Boise State
West division champ: San Diego State
MWC champ: San Diego State
Sun Belt Conference
Conference champ: Appalachian State
And now, back to the REAL action…
College Football Playoff Teams
