Analysis
This is one of the weakest divisions in the NFL — not NFC East-like, but weak nonetheless. Given the amount of changes in this division, most of it for the worst, the question has to be ‘who the hell wants to win the AFC South’?
Tennessee lost its offensive coordinator to the Atlanta Falcons, and the jury is out on how good this offense will be? Will QB Ryan Tannehill revert back to ‘Miami Dolphin’ Tannehill? Will RB Derrick Henry continue to dominate in the new offensive czar’s system? Will newly acquired WR Julio Jones mesh well with his protégé/budding star A.J. Brown?
And we haven’t even started on the Titans’ defense. It ranked near the bottom of the league in all categories — except for turnover differential, which it leads the league.
The Colts suffered a big blow when it lost starting QB Carson Wentz for the entire preseason after his foot surgery. He’s already a reclamation project, and was thought to lead the offense to higher heights this season.
At least the Colts’ stout defense is still largely intact. The team signed LB Darius Leonard to a HUGE contract extension this offseason. So with all the question marks on offense, the defense may be the ones having to lead the charge.
And what’s left to say about the Jaguars and the Texans? For one, they both will suck this season. Two, they will suck HARD.
At least the Jaguars are starting over with the first overall pick as its QB for the future in Trevor Lawrence, and a new coach in Urban Meyer. The Texans? They still have a QB who not only doesn’t want to be there, who also doubles as a sex fiend (Deshaun Watson). And I doubt their new head coach and general manager know what the hell there are doing.
