Jimbo to Texas A&M: Huh???

College football has given us a few head scratchers over the last few years.

Maryland leaving the ACC (where it was a charter member) for the Big Ten. Nebraska leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten. The bizarre Tennessee football coach search saga (now that weak-ass athletics director for fired).

Time to add the “Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M” story to that list.

Fisher resigned from Florida State to take the head coaching gig at A&M earlier today, meaning he won’t coach in the “bowl game or bust” make-up game vs. Louisiana-Monroe tomorrow. The deal is a 10-year, $75 million — at least we won’t worry about fisher being able to feed his family.

This to me seems like a lateral move at best. Florida State is one of the best head coaching jobs in college football. It is essentially an SEC-like program with an ACC schedule.

Something had to be going on behind the scenes to cause Jimbo to leave such a great gig.

Maybe he didn’t get the football-only facility he was looking for, even though the one the players used are shared by other sports and is not too shabby. Or maybe the FSU brass wanted Jimbo to make some coaching changes to his staff and he was too loyal not to.

Or maybe, just maybe, he was looking for a big pay day and A&M was the one to give it to him.

Again, it’s not like Texas A&M is a huge upgrade over FSU. The Aggies aren’t even the premiere program in their own state lol!

And there is that Nick Saban fella in the SEC West. It’ll be fun to see Jimbo go against his mentor annually, but does he REALLY want a part of Alabama like that?

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Jimbo better win big at A&M and win fast. Otherwise he may have to do that “Group of 5” downgrade…
