What up, yo!
The 2017 NFL season is only a few days away. Lots of excitement. Lots of fans getting excited for the upcoming season (unless you’re a Cleveland Browns fan — Jets fans, too).
Lots of story-lines abound.
Will the Patriots go undefeated? Will the Jets win a game? Will the Falcons rebound from the mother of all Super Bowl choke jobs? Are we seeing the return of the “America’s Team” in Dallas?
Or notably, will Colin Kaepernick get signed — and will fans boycott the NFL pro or con?
This rant is solely dedicated to how I see things shaping out in the AFC. The NFC preview will come shortly thereafter.
So, without further ado…
(Note: *-denotes wildcard team)
AFC East Division
- New England Patriots
- Miami Dolphins
- Buffalo Bills
- New York Jets
Analysis: I don’t know why I even bother to with this division. Everybody and their mamas know the patriots are gonna moonwalk their asses to yet ANOTHER division title.
I mean, the Dolphins are starting the recently retired Jay Cutler for crying out loud. The Bills STILL do not have a plan to compete for at least a playoff spot. As for the Jets, what’s the point? No QB that’s worth a damn on the roster, but hey didn’t want Kaepernick.
As I always say, “JETS” = “Just End The Season”…
AFC North Division
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Cincinnati Bengals*
- Baltimore Ravens
- Cleveland Browns
Analysis: This division and the AFC West are the best in football. I could easily debate that there are three playoff-caliber teams in this division.
My beloved Steelers will score copious amounts of points, as long as Martavis Bryant and Le’Veon Bell “stay off the weeeeeeeee-D”. The Bengals and Ravens have two talented defenses, but have questions offensively.
As for the Browns, sigh. As much as I grew up hating them, they are in dire need of prayers…
AFC South Division
- Houston Texans
- Tennessee Titans
- Indianapolis Colts
- Jacksonville Jaguars
Analysis: This is the year I think the Titans can take the next step in dethroning the Texans. I love QB Marcus Mariota’s development as a passer, and the running game led by DeMarco Murray is going to be money. As long as the defense is above average, look out for Tennessee.
The Texans are a QB away from being an elite squad. Their defense is one of the best in the NFL, and they have weapons at the skill positions on offense. I personally think Deshaun Watson gives them the best shot to win at QB, over “what’s his name”.
I feel bad for Andrew Luck. Him being stuck behind that porous offensive line means his ass is going to stay plastered all season long.
And if Blake Bortles is REALLY the answer at QB in Jacksonville, then what the hell was the question?!
AFC West Division
- Oakland Raiders
- Kansas City Chiefs*
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Denver Broncos
Analysis: This should be an extremely competitive division all season long. Oakland, Kansas City, and even the LA Chargers are improved. In addition to Houston, Denver’s defense is the best in football. Too bad the Broncos’ offense will hold them back.
Speaking of the Chargers, I will be intrigued by how many fans they will draw to that soccer stadium the next two seasons. Should have kept their asses in San Diego.
2017 AFC Champions: New England Patriots (what, were y’all expecting a different squad???)
