My Sorry-Ass NFL Predictions

Well, this is the time of year when I share with people just how terrible I am at being an NFL prognosticator.

Here are my predicted finishes by division, alongside the ACTUAL finishes:

AFC

AFC East

My predictions

Actual finish

Dolphins Patriots
Patriots Jets
Jets Dolphins
Bills Bills

I thought this would be the year the Dolphins get over the hump.  The Patriots appeared to be vulnerable and the Jets appeared all bluster.  I couldn’t have been more wrong on all three counts.

AFC North

My predictions

Actual finish

Bengals Steelers
Steelers Ravens
Ravens Browns
Browns Bengals

Talk about getting something all wrong.  Not only were the Bengals my pick to win this division, but to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.  Sometime during the 10-game losing streak I realized that my Bengals’ pick was a crappy one.  Meanwhile, my Steelers bounced back in a HUGE way in winning the division.  And while the Ravens have questions on offense, they are still a well-rounded football team.

AFC South

My predictions

Actual finish

Colts Colts
Texans Jaguars
Titans Texans
Jaguars Titans

I wasn’t too far off on this division.  Count me as one of many who were fooled by the Texans – yet again.

AFC West

My predictions

Actual finish

Chargers Chiefs
Broncos Chargers
Raiders Raiders
Chiefs Broncos

I do not feel so bad about this because there is NO ONE outside of Kansas City (Missouri and Kansas) who gave the Chiefs a snowball’s chance in hell chance of winning this division.  How Norv Turner is still coaching the Chargers is beyond me.

NFC

NFC East

My predictions

Actual finish

Cowboys Eagles
Redskins Giants
Giants Cowboys
Eagles Redskins

Along with the Bengals pick, this was one of my worst picks for the 2010 NFL season.  In fact, it’s the worst pick because not only did I have Dallas winning the NFC, I also had them winning the Super Bowl!  Eagles coach Andy Reid proved me wrong, as did Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

NFC North

My predictions

Actual finish

Packers Bears
Bears Packers
Vikings Lions
Lions Vikings

I wasn’t too far off here.  I (along with most NFL pundits) did not see the Bears coming at all.

NFC South

My predictions

Actual finish

Saints Falcons
Falcons Saints
Panthers Buccaneers
Buccaneers Panthers

Tampa Bay really impressed me, even in a 3rd place finish.  Ten wins is nothing to sniff at, and the Bucs should be one of the dark horses next season.  Other than the horrendous Carolina Panthers, this division proved to be the strongest in the NFL.

NFC West

My predictions

Actual finish

49ers Seahawks
Cardinals Rams
Seahawks 49ers
Rams Cardinals

As Charles Barkley would say, this is a “turrible” division.  I didn’t figure that former 49ers coach Mike Singletary would become so tightly wound.  People say that some 49ers players were afraid of him, and they played like it.  As good as the Seahawks’ story is, I have to ask the question: what is up with that 7-9 record?  Really?  Hey, they won the division and they deserve their spot in the playoffs, but still…
