Remember when I said a while back that I would be better about posting NFL previews? Well, I might have kinda lied about that.
That’s what happens when you have a whole lot of crap going on — career and personal. Balancing life as a career dude in IT, a doting dad and a podcaster/blogger at night is a little bit of the “burning the candles at both ends” thing. Well, maybe a little bit MORE than that.
If I continue to make excuses on why I haven’t been previewing games as much as I should, this would not be the world quickest Super Bowl LIV preview (hell, it STILL may not be anyway). So without further ado…
San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
On paper, this figures to be the most evenly matched Super Bowl in recent memory. The wise guys in Vegas has the Chiefs as a 1 1/2 point favorite.
However, the teams couldn’t be more different. The Chiefs strength is their high-powered offense led by QB Patrick Mahomes, and the Niners are led by their defense who boasts stars such as Richard Sherman, Nick Bosa, and Kwon Alexander.
This game, to me, will be determined by who controls the line of scrimmage on BOTH sides of the ball.
The Niners have the luxury of not having to blitz on pass and run plays. The Chiefs’ offense line, while not bad, does have their fair share of weaknesses. Plus, the Chiefs can’t run the ball to save their lives.
San Francisco can run the rock VERY well, and don’t have to worry about relying solely on QB Jimmy Garoppollo to take it home. Kansas City’s defense, while improved over the second half of the season, is not but so stout up front.
And despite the plethora of weapons the Chiefs have on offense, I think the Niners running game and defense will slow them down. After all, two things that travel in football are a great running game and defense. So…
49ers 27, Chiefs 23
(So much for a short preview, huh?)
