If I Were an NBA Team, I Would NOT Draft Darryn Peterson

I am enjoying the 2025-2026 NCAA men’s college basketball season.

The road to the championship is wide open as far as I am concerned. Duke can win it all. So could Michigan. Ditto for Houston. I would watch out for Florida as well.

In the midst of the parity that is making this season fun to watch, there are players that are absolute studs — and they are ALL freshmen.

Cam Boozer from Duke. AJ Dybantsa from BYU. Caleb Wilson from UNC. And don’t sleep on Darius Acuff Jr. from Arkansas.

But there is one star player who has me scratching my head. In fact, if I were an NBA team front office executive, I wouldn’t even draft this kid.

That would be one Darryn Peterson from Kansas.

Dude has completed a game for the Jayhawks only a small handful of times. He’s taken himself out of games due to cramps, suspicion of soft tissue issues, tummy flu.

In short, he’s implementing load management IN COLLEGE.

And if he’s doing this on NIL money, how y’all think he is gonna be on an NBA salary? You think his team of advisors (which includes his family) would be any more resonable?

Look, I know this kid is immensely talented. He may be the best player in all of college basketball.

I’m just glad Peterson is not playing for my alma mater NC State. Hell, I feel REALLY bad for his teammates and head coach Bill Self.

That’s why if I were an NBA scout or executive, there is NO WAY I would draft this kid. Not only #1 overall, but AT ALL.
