There is a saying which states there is a time and place for everything. There is a time to talk, and a time to shut the hell up.
In the case of Rashard Mendenhall, he should have done just that: shut the hell up. (It hurts me as a Steelers fan to type that)
Mendenhall is in hot water over some of the most ignorant tweets concerning the death of Osama bin Laden. He are a couple of samples of what he said:
“We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style”
“What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”
While he did take the time to clarify his statements earlier today, he needs to learn while there was no crime in having an opinion, one has to accept the consequences of making such comments.
Look, I know the first amendment protects EVERYONE. Hell, look at other kooks and groups with half-baked opinions. Rush Limbaugh. Keith Olbermann. Glenn Beck. Rev. Jesse Jackson. The Ku Klux Klan and al Qaeda. It’s just that none of the guys and groups cannot complain (nor do they give a damn) when hit with negative backlash in response to what they say and believe.
At the end of the day, you reap what you sew. Mendenhall should man up and face the backlash – and hopefully learn not to let anything ignorant fly from his piehole again.
