Those guys were not old and rickety (except Bird who was tough as nails). You are totally underestimating or forgetting how good Magic was at seeing the floor. People say LeBron is as good a passer as Magic and those people are either wrong or stupid. Lets not forget the Dream Team left some people off their roster who could have been included. Isaiah Thomas. Dominique Wilkins. Shaq. Webber.

This Dream Team could have been even better on paper.

The Dream Team spent every game stealing errant passes and fast-breaking the hell out of all competition. No way were the younger guys just going to tire them out. Also, you seem to forget the level of competitiveness of the Dream Team. Their practices were nearly fist-fights. Everyone was settling a score from the NBA. THAT, and the audacity of these other kids coming in telling them they could take them and you raise the level of competitiveness from the original team.

Lets look at experience, since only 6 of the 2012 team had even been to a conference finals in their career. You don’t know how they will react at the highest levels. Most of these 6 hadn’t been there until this year. This team is GREEN. The old NBA playoffs were WAR. None of this hugging it out after a game. There were serious issues between players then.

Seriously, watch those old films of the Dream Team again. Tell me those guys were going to get rolled. Watch what Jordan and Pippen did to Kukoc (the best international player at the time.) He was practically in tears at the end of that game. They won by 30-40 every game and were treating it like an all-star game. This is when you could thug it up and had to fight your way to a title. Not like now. These guys haven’t had to face this level of intensity and competition like the NBA of the 80s.
